Team Lead – Full Stack Shopify Developer
Role Overview
We’re looking for a Team Lead – Full Stack Shopify Developer who will take ownership of our Shopify development, design execution, CRO strategy, and SEO performance across all projects.
This role combines hands-on development with team leadership, where you’ll guide a cross-functional team of developers and designers while actively contributing to builds. You’ll ensure every store we deliver is technically strong, visually polished, and conversion-focused.
You will act as the bridge between development, design, and growth, driving both project quality and team performance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Shopify Development (Core Ownership)
- Develop and maintain custom Shopify and Shopify Plus stores using Liquid, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS while ensuring scalability and clean architecture.
- Build reusable and modular theme components following Shopify best practices to support long-term maintainability.
- Troubleshoot complex technical issues and ensure smooth functionality, performance, and stability of all stores.
- Develop and maintain integrations with Shopify APIs, third-party apps, and external systems to support business requirements.
- Conduct feasibility analysis for new client requests and define optimal technical approaches before execution.
2. Technical Leadership
- Serve as the primary technical authority across all Shopify projects, supporting developers in debugging, architecture, and execution.
- Lead code reviews, technical discussions, and architectural decisions to ensure consistent development standards.
- Define and enforce coding conventions, file organization, Git workflows, and development best practices.
- Stay updated with Shopify ecosystem changes and implement improvements proactively.
- Collaborate with design and project teams to align technical feasibility with business and creative goals.
3. Design Direction & UX Oversight
- Lead visual execution across projects by ensuring pixel-perfect implementation and alignment with brand guidelines.
- Review Figma designs before development to validate layout accuracy, responsiveness, and Shopify feasibility.
- Define and maintain design consistency across typography, spacing, and reusable UI components.
- Collaborate with designers to refine layouts, flows, and interactions to improve usability.
- Ensure all deliverables meet a high standard of visual polish and user experience across devices.
4. CRO (Conversion Rate Optimization)
- Ensure every store is built with a CRO-first mindset, focusing on user flow, hierarchy, and clarity.
- Conduct conversion audits to identify opportunities across landing pages, product pages, and checkout flows.
- Analyze user behavior using tools like GA4 and Hotjar to identify friction points and improvement areas.
- Implement and iterate on improvements based on A/B testing, heatmaps, and user insights.
- Continuously optimize key elements such as CTAs, layouts, and product experiences to improve conversions.
5. SEO & Performance
- Ensure implementation of technical SEO best practices, including metadata, structured data, and site architecture.
- Optimize page speed and Core Web Vitals through efficient asset handling and code optimization.
- Collaborate with marketing teams to align development with SEO and performance goals.
- Ensure all builds are fast, mobile-optimized, and aligned with modern search standards.
6. Quality Assurance & Delivery
- Own the QA process by reviewing code and front-end output before client delivery.
- Conduct pre-launch reviews and testing walkthroughs to validate functionality and experience.
- Maintain alignment with the Project Manager and Design Lead to ensure consistent quality.
- Validate performance benchmarks and ensure all deliverables meet defined standards.
7. Team Leadership & Mentorship
- Lead and mentor developers through regular check-ins, code reviews, and feedback sessions.
- Support team growth by identifying skill gaps and introducing training or knowledge-sharing sessions.
- Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement.
8. Process & Project Collaboration
- Work closely with the Account Manager to plan timelines, scope work, and allocate tasks effectively.
- Ensure accurate task estimation and maintain structured tracking within ClickUp.
- Communicate blockers, risks, and delays early and clearly.
9. GitHub & Technical Operations
- Own the GitHub workflow, including branching, pull requests, and merge approvals.
- Maintain clean version control practices and resolve conflicts efficiently.
- Coordinate deployments and maintain release processes and documentation.
- Implement and monitor CI/CD processes to streamline delivery.
10. Innovation & Efficiency
- Introduce AI tools and automation to improve development speed and reduce manual effort.
- Identify opportunities to optimize workflows through tooling and process improvements.
- Research and implement new Shopify tools, apps, or frameworks where beneficial.
- Document processes and promote continuous improvement across the team.
What You Bring
- 4–5+ years of experience in Shopify and full-stack web development with a strong portfolio.
- Deep expertise in Shopify themes, apps, APIs, and Liquid.
- Strong understanding of UX, CRO, and performance optimization.
- Experience with tools like Figma, GA4, Hotjar, and modern eCommerce stacks.
- Proven ability to mentor teams and communicate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
