Job Description

Job Summary

  1. The CNC Designer is responsible for creating accurate 2D drawings and 3D models, preparing CNC programs, and developing machining plans for manufacturing components according to technical specifications. The role involves interpreting engineering drawings, selecting appropriate machining methods, and ensuring that designs are suitable for CNC machining, production accuracy, and material optimization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create 2D technical drawings and 3D CAD models for CNC-machined parts and components.
  • Prepare CNC programs using CAM software according to design requirements.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, dimensions, tolerances, and technical specifications.
  • Develop toolpaths for CNC milling, turning, routing, or other machining operations as required.
  • Select appropriate cutting tools, machining parameters, and materials.
  • Perform toolpath simulations and identify potential machining errors before production.
  • Optimize machining processes to reduce cycle time, material waste, and production costs.
  • Coordinate with production, quality control, and engineering teams to resolve design and machining issues.
  • Revise drawings and CNC programs based on design changes and customer requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards, safety procedures, and manufacturing requirements.
  • Maintain proper records of CAD drawings, CNC programs, revisions, and technical documentation.

Required Skills

  • Strong technical drawing and 3D modeling skills.
  • Knowledge of CNC programming and toolpath generation.
  • Good problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Attention to detail and dimensional accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with production teams.
  • Effective communication and time-management skills.

Required Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Practical experience in CNC design, CAD drafting, and CAM programming.
  • Knowledge of engineering drawings, GD&T, tolerances, and machining processes.
  • Familiarity with CAD/CAM software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Mastercam, Fusion 360, or Siemens NX.
  • Understanding of CNC machine operations, cutting tools, workholding, and machining parameters.
